EU grants and funding

EU grants are money you can receive from the EU to carry out projects that contribute to EU policy goals, such as growth, environmental innovation or social inclusion. The grants are administered through various programmes and funds, where each programme has its own criteria, target groups and application processes.

How it works, from Brussels to your company

The European Commission and Parliament decide on grant programmes and allocate funds for different sectors. The funds are then distributed via Swedish authorities such as Tillväxtverket, Vinnova and regional actors that handle applications and payments. Swedish companies apply for funds through these authorities, and we guide you through the entire process.

The process can be summarised in three steps: the EU decides on budget frameworks and programme areas, Swedish authorities open calls and handle applications, and finally companies apply with the support of a clear project plan and budget.

Common EU grants for businesses

• The Regional Fund (ERDF) strengthens regional growth and employment through investments in innovation, digitalisation and small business. Particularly relevant for companies outside the metropolitan regions.
• The Social Fund (ESF+) focuses on skills development, labour market measures and social inclusion. Can finance training initiatives and organisational development.
• Horizon Europe is the world's largest research and innovation programme with a budget of 95 billion euros. Aimed at groundbreaking technological solutions and collaborative projects.
• LIFE is the EU's only programme entirely dedicated to environmental and climate action. Funds projects in circular economy, biodiversity and climate adaptation.
• Erasmus+ provides support for collaborative projects and knowledge exchange in education, vocational training and international partnerships.

What is required to apply?

The application process varies by programme, but in general your company needs to be able to demonstrate:

• A clear project idea that aligns with the programme's goals
• A realistic budget and timeline for execution
• Collaboration with other actors (some programmes require international partners)
• Documentation on sustainability and societal impact
